Aquatic Plants
I'm going to start with a photo from home, taken yesterday. I actually didn't go to Lakeside Park yesterday as it rained in the early morning. I also needed to spend some time calibrating a lens I'd bought, so the rain was a good excuse. I used a 350mm manual lens on an old 10 megapixel Pentax during a break in the weather, and I just love the soft focus in this photo of two house finches:
It took the branch home and then started constructing, only this time the beaver was moving aquatic plants and placing them in one big pile. Sorry for the lack of focus, it was really difficult to judge in the dark. If anyone knows what this aquatic plant is, could you let me know? I'm curious if it is invasive:
As the beaver was keeping itself busy, a night heron flew past us and landed in a willow tree from where it could overlook the excavations. The combined low light of morning and the shade of the trees could not diminish the night heron's beauty:

On to this morning at the lake and thankfully there was no excitement. I went to check on the mallard ducks and they seemed to be keeping well clear of the lily pads today. Just off to my right, I noticed a beaver size ripple and sure enough, the beaver was trimming itself another sapling, just in front of the reed beds:
