Beaver on Dry Land
I seem to be unable to stop myself from being curious about what the beaver is up to in the mornings. I caught sight of it in the shade, pawing in the shallows, kicking up a muddy silt as it created channels and constructed mounds. The beaver then did its usual disappearing act, and it wasn't until much later that I saw it further downstream. It's unusual to see the beaver out of the water, but that was where it was, on the bank's side, munching on some nice leafy greens:
I have seen the beaver actually standing on its back legs pulling grapevines down from the branches to eat the vine leaves. It obviously has a varied diet. I watched until the beaver descended into the water and swam off to its den:
I took an old Nikon camera with me today, purely as it has an auto focus zoom lens, which is a bit of a luxury for me. It's only a 6 megapixel camera, so there isn't a huge amount of detail, but I had fun using it at the lake:
