A Little Something for Later

The nights are steadily moving in, encroaching on my mornings. A longer wait for the sun to rise at just after 6 AM, but also a little more time to watch the beaver:


It busied itself, feeding in the last minutes before dawn, and selected a little something to eat for later:


Making it just the right size, before dragging it from the far side of the lake to its den, which was fascinating to watch:


The beaver submerged way before it reached home. All that was visible was the tip of the branch as it disappeared under the bank.

One last photo which I could not resist posting. Taken later in the morning and much better lit than the beaver photos, a little downy woodpecker hunting for insects:
